After searching and visiting other clubs I went to Academy Martial Arts. As we walked into the reception area the atmosphere was very pleasant and I was greeted with a smile which made me feel welcome. They also took the time to explain what physical and mental benefits I could gain from training which also impressed me, as other clubs did not offer these. After leaving the school, I felt a real buzz and I couldn’t wait to start.

The best  workout ever?

With our kickboxing program, it’s completely different. Our full time, professional instructors are committed to seeing you get the best from your training so although each class is fun and contains a fantastic workout, they continually vary the class to ensure you don’t get bored. Plus with a complete belt structure for you to work through, it means that you can see constant improvement, you get recognition for your hard work and you are always learning something new.

I’m sure at one point in your working life, you get stressed.  Clients are hassling you, your boss is getting impatient with something you haven’t got time to do and then when you get home there’s a meeting you have to prepare for or you have to finish writing that report. This makes you not sleep well, your weight seems to go out of control and you find yourself getting angry at people for no real reason.  The only problem is that this doesn’t seem to go away. When we exercise our body naturally decreases the stress hormones such as cortisol and increases endorphins. Endorphins are the body’s natural feel good chemicals, and when they are released through exercise, your mood is boosted naturally. As well as endorphins, exercise also releases adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine; these chemicals work together to make you feel good. Class Schedules

One thing we hear from parents is “I don’t have the time to do it”. Let’s look at it a different way than just putting a few hours a week aside for training.  If you wanted to get all of the physical and emotional benefits that you get from martial arts by joining a gym or working out on your own, here’s what you’d need to do. You’d need to hire a personal trainer to help you with your strengthening, an aerobics instructor to give you a cardio workout and a yoga instructor to give you the mental calming and stress relief (or you could do all of these things from a video and do the exact same workouts everyday).  Here’s my point: you get so much from one martial arts training session that it would take three separate sessions of different exercises to get the same benefits elsewhere.

 

If you’re still not convinced that you have the time to train martial arts, think about how the training affects other aspects of your life. Martial Arts increases your ability to focus and concentrate which will help you complete your daily tasks better, no matter what they are. 

Remember, you’ll also find your training to be a great stress reliever (for both physical and mental stress) which will prepare you better for your daily challenges.
